Dream Theater - Octavarium (2005)

You have to think that all DT members should take a 2 years hiatus and stop participating in so many projects, clinics and all that stuff until they come back with fresh new ideas. Don't get me wrong, a DT album is never a bad one but I feel Octavarium is a little step back from their great Train of Thoughts.

You also have to think if ballads such as The Answer Lies Beneath really deserve to be a part the musical catalogue of such a famous band and if you still want to hear the same formula disc after disc. The epic title track shows some interesting things, but certainly 23 minutes don't seem to be necessary.

As a whole Octavarium will please al DT hardcore fans, but it seems difficult it will attract new listeners with so many competence nowadays. Let's hope they revamp on their following work.
